Artists’ Retreats

Windows on Wildlife

Award-winning artist, Denise Smith, is running a 2-day Artists’ Retreat at Warburton in February. The workshop will focus on wildlife subjects.

Aim: To take home a completed work, guided by Denise’s expertise in wildlife painting.

Date: 25 and 26 February 2016.

Sketching Workshop

Denise’s Sketching Workshop

On 14th February from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm, I am running a sketching workshop.

Venue: Crumbz Craft, 236 Maroondah Highway, Healesville.

Cost: $65.00.

In the first part of this workshop (at Crumbz Craft), I will talk about how you go about getting a drawing started, what to look for, how to simplify what you see.

After that, we will be sketching in the main street of Healesville, stopping here and there to grab a cup of coffee, and finding some interesting subjects to sketch.

Denise Smith

November 2015 Paintout

Date – Wednesday 25 November, 2015.
Venue – Mont de Lancy – 71 Wellington Road, Wandin North.

Time – 10:30am

Mont de Lancy is a property set in the beautiful Yarra Valley and offers a wide variety of subjects for the artist. The property includes an historic homestead built by Henry Sebire in the early 1880’s using bricks he made on site. The Sebires were a pioneering family, Henry having migrated to Australia in 1849. The property is rich in the history of the Yarra Valley, with the gardens that surround the homestead, and dating from the 1890s, adding to the attraction of this beautiful venue.

The on-site restaurant is not open on Wednesdays, so make sure you BYO food and drinks. Tea and coffee will be available.

Meeting August 2015

Date – Sunday 2 August 2015
Time – 1:30pm to 4:00 pm

Venue – Coldstream Community Centre, Kelso Street, Coldstream – Melways Map 281 B10

Demonstration – The demonstration this month will be given by Lia Williams, who will demonstrate a range  of watercolour and pen and wash techniques.

Lia is a local artist based in Mount Evelyn in the Yarra Ranges.

As well as an artist specialising in watercolours and oils, Lia has a wealth of experience as an art teacher. Many aspiring artists have been encouraged to pursue their passion through her skill in passing on new approaches to painting.

She is currently a member of AGRA (Australian Guild of Realist Artists).

This demonstration will be of special interest to those wanting to improve their watercolour or pen and wash techniques.

March 2015 Paintout

Date – Wednesday 25 March 2015
Venue – Lilydale Lake – Swansea Road, Lilydale (near the former Lilydale Bush Nursing Hospital).
Time – 10:30am
Lilydale Lake offers a wide variety of subjects for the artist from the tranquility of the views across the lake to many and varied bushland scenes – all in a setting with plenty of parking, shelters and walking tracks. The wildlife and many interesting native gardens and smaller waterholes add to the attraction of this beautiful venue.

There is no cafe, so make sure you BYO food and drinks.

October 2014 Paintout

Venue – Warratina Lavender Farm – Quayle Road, Wandin (Melways 121 F1).
Time – 10:30am
Warratina Lavender Farm is one of our favourite venues for painting. With beautiful gardens, interesting buildings and stunning views of the ranges of the Yarra Valley, there a plenty of subjects for artists. Shelter is available if it is raining.

While morning tea, coffee and food are available in the cafe, you are also welcome to BYO lunch.

This Exhibition provides an opportunity to view and purchase a diverse range of art works created by members of the Mount Evelyn and Yarra Valley Art Society. The artists include many of the leading artists of the Yarra Valley area. Entry is free, so the Exhibition is a great way to learn more about the work of the many dedicated artists from the local community.
